Yesterday, small cap geothermal stock U.S. Geothermal Inc (NYSEMKT: HTM) produced a geyser of a return when it surged 26.79%, meaning its worth taking a closer look at the stock verses the performance of other geothermal stocks like small cap Ormat Technologies, Inc (NYSE: ORA) and mid cap Calpine Corporation (NYSE: CPN).First of all, I should mention there are some other geothermal stocks out there like Alterra Power Corp (CVE: AXY) and Ram Power Corp (TSE: RPG) who have their primary listing on Canadian exchanges with secondary ones on the OTCmeaning they may not be a good deal for American investors or easy to invest in. Second, U.S. Geothermal Inc itself is a good geothermal proxy as itsfocused on developing, owning, and operating clean, sustainable electric power from geothermal energy resources and itsoperating geothermal power projects at Neal Hot Springs, Oregon; San Emidio, Nevada; and Raft River, Idaho plus El Ceibillo, an advanced stage, geothermal prospect located within a 24,710 acre energy rights concession area near Guatemala City, the largest city in Central America.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Magic Diligence]
One stock that has been in the official Magic Formula (MFI) screen for the past month or so has piqued my interest: Kraft (KRFT).
The MFI screens, particularly the $50 million screen, are usually reserved for deep value stocks. Usually you find stocks in here suffering serious adverse business developments (LQDT, NSR, etc.), operate in out-of-favor industries (APOL, STRA, etc.), have volatile and difficult-to-predict future prospects (PDLI comes to mind), or are just simply cheap quantitatively (CSCO, COH, et.al.).

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Ben Levisohn]
The bear case on steel stocks like US Steel (X) and AK Steel (AKS) has been that lower iron-ore prices would ultimately lead to lower steel prices. That hasn’t happened yet, but JPMorgan’s Michael Gambardella and team haven’t given up hope.
Agence France-Presse/Getty ImagesThey explain why they favor Steel Dynamics (STLD) and Nucor (NUE) over US Steel and AK Steel:
For the steel companies, we continue to believe that lower raw material costs and increased imports will pressure sheet prices lower. Given this cautious stance, we continue to prefer Nucor and Steel Dynamics (over AK Steel and US Steel) given their variable cost structures and significant leverage to an eventual recovery in non-residential construction.
Count Axiom Capital’s Gordon Johnson among those that agree it’s just a matter of time before steel prices fall and drag down US Steel’s stock with them:
…a very interesting American Metal Market (AMM) article from this morning suggests, in addition to the above, HRC volumes will be weak in C4Q14 (which would weigh negatively on US Steel margins structure). We believe US Steel stock is currently discounting HRC prices at ~$670/ton in 2014 & 2015. [The article says steel prices have fallen to $640 a ton. Ed.]
US Steel has dropped 0.9% to $33.33 at 1:35 p.m. today, while AK Steel has gained 1% to $6.36, Nucor has advanced 0.4% to $50.12 and Steel Dynamics is unchanged at $21.06.

But the problem for Cliffs is that like many of its peers, its future remains tied to macroeconomic conditions in China and other high-growth areas of the world, and those areas haven't held up as well as the U.S. economy has. Other economically sensitive materials producers have seen similar trends, with U.S. Steel (NYSE: X ) expected to go from a profit last year to a sizable loss this year. Moreover, even though aluminum giant Alcoa (NYSE: AA ) has managed to hit bottom as far as its earnings are concerned, it nevertheless faces strong headwinds from both a lack of demand in China and substantial production activity from Chinese rivals in the aluminum industry. Investors have awarded all three stocks with low price-to-book ratios, but given the current malaise in the industry, it appears more likely that book values are artificially high than that share prices are true bargains.

That dynamic means that companies that can benefit from construction strength and cut costs will outperform others. For that reason, Murphy keeps Nucor (NUE) andSteel Dynamics (STLD) at Buy. He wasn’t so kind to Reliance Steel (RS), US Steel (X) and AK Steel (AKS), which were all cut, though for different reasons.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Ben Levisohn]
Timing of the transaction completion is mid 2015, following final approval of the BoD, receipt of favorable opinion on tax free status from IRS, shareholder approval, & all regulatory approvals. As a point of interest we have seen several announcements recently where an announcement of the split drives the stocks up 10% and quickly fades as timing sets in and market risk still exists. recent examples [Hertz (HTZ), FMC Corp (FMC), Agilent (A), Noble (NE), CBS (CBS)]. I would expect the stock to fade hard from these levels
